Louisville Cruelty

$5,000 Reward Offered In Louisville Animal Cruelty Case

Posted by: N Gilbert

Louisville Metro Animal Services (LMAS) is investigating an extremely serious animal cruelty and neglect case and is hoping the community can help with information leading to an arrest and conviction.

On Tuesday morning, LMAS responded to a call regarding a dog tied to a fence with duct tape covering its muzzle in the 2600 block of West Kentucky Street. The dog, a male pit bull, was suffering from malnutrition and other injuries.

Due to the severity of his injuries, LMAS requested the assistance of The Arrow Fund, a local humane organization specializing in rehabilitating victims of animal cruelty, to provide the specialized veterinary care this dog required. The dog, now named Frodo, required extensive surgery on his mouth and jaw and faces possible amputation of his rear leg. Frodo remains hospitalized in the Louisville area.

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible.

"This animal has endured extreme and unnecessary suffering," said Pamela Rogers, Kentucky state director for The Humane Society of the United States. "We hope our reward brings forward anyone with information about this heinous crime. Whoever is responsible for this dog's misery should know that this kind of cruelty is not tolerated in our community."

"LMAS officers and staff will aggressively pursue every avenue to identify and prosecute those responsible for this act of cruelty," said LMAS Senior Manager Margaret Brosko. "We will continue to do everything we can to protect Louisville animals and bring them the justice they deserve."

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact LMAS at 502-363-6609.
