Ft. Myers woman facing animal abuse charges

A woman in Lee County is facing some horrifying charges of animal abuse. Deputies say Ana Torres knowingly left her Yorkshire terrier to die inside a kennel.

Sgt. Stubby: America's 1st Bully Hero!

In response to World War I, members of the First Company Governor's Foot Guard were activated and inducted into the 102nd Infantry Battalion of the 26th "Yankee" Division along with members of Connecticut's other Organized Militia units and numerous volunteers. During their training on the grounds of Yale University prior to deployment, they unexpectedly added a soldier to their company. Found by then-Private John Conroy, Stubby was a brindle patched puppy of unknown descent with a short tail from which he received his name. As the soldiers became familiar with army life, so did Stubby. Stubby became familiar with all of the bugle calls, the drill marching routines, and the routines of life in camp, even learning to give a dog's version of a salute. Stubby would would put his right paw on his right eyebrow when a salute was executed by others around him. Stubby's effect on the soldiers around him as well as his dedication to training and his ability to salute earned him the right to remain in the camp, even though animals were not allowed. N Gilbert is the founder of GLD and the proud parent of a Medical Alert Service Dog whom she rescued from a high kill shelter. With a large background in computer graphics & law enforcement, Miss Gilbert has been around a wide range of animals all her life and has a passion for helping those in need. It is her goal to make all shelters "No Kill" one day!

O Jefferson is the co-founder of GLD and the proud parent of a once neglected Pit Bull now named Petey. With an extensive background in business communications, architecture, as well as law enforcement, Mr. Jefferson's goal has been to raise funds for the local shelters in his area so that the upkeep can be clean and healthy. Mr. Jefferson has a big love for animals and would love to open a "No Kill" shelter in the future.

G Hunt is known as the quiet one of the bunch. She is a moderator on GLD and donates her time daily at her local animal shelters and assists with rescues. She has rescued 2 feral cats (Jack & Maggie) and her dog Elmer (a German Shepherd/Boxer mix). Ms. Hunt has a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science. Her goal is to eliminate puppy mills all over the world!
