Toby has the expression of an Angel!

UPDATE: A RESCUE HOLD HAS BEEN PLACED ON TOBY!

What a sweet face! Toby has the expression of an Angel! Such trust and open-ness. He just wants a friend. He offered his paw without me even asking him....he will grab your heart...he is VERY LOVING!

This precious boy came to us with a known owner, so we hope they respond to our efforts to reach them. If not, he will be in the market for a new home on 1/13/15.

He is a very gentle, loving soul who would just love to give you his heart!

He is 2 yrs. old & he weighs 53.6 lbs.

Toby is up to date on shots, gets along well w/his grumpy roommate and he will be neutered prior to his adoption.

Avail to rescue: 1/14/15

***CODE RED! CRITICALLY URGENT! MUST EXIT THE SHELTER BY 3:30 PM ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 16TH, OR HE WILL BE PUT TO SLEEP!***

HE IS JUST COMING DOWN WITH KENNEL COUGH, AND IS BEING TREATED, BUT CAN BE RESCUED OR ADOPTED.

POTENTIAL ADOPTERS: AS LONG AS HIS ADOPTION CONTRACT IS COMPLETED (CAN BE FAXED) AND HIS ADOPTION FEE IS PAID PRIOR TO 3:30 PM ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 16TH, HE CAN BE ADOPTED WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT HE MUST STAY AT THE SHELTER UNTIL HE IS WELL AND CAN BE BEEN NEUTERED.

RESCUES: YOU MUST HAVE A RESCUE HOLD ON HIM BY 3:30 PM ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 16TH, AND HE WILL LEAVE THE SHELTER 'AS IS'.

UPDATE: OWNER DID NOT RECLAIM TOBY, SO HE IS NOW AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION AND IS AVAILABLE TO RESCUE AS OF TOMORROW, JANUARY 14TH.

Sgt. Stubby: America's 1st Bully Hero!

In response to World War I, members of the First Company Governor's Foot Guard were activated and inducted into the 102nd Infantry Battalion of the 26th "Yankee" Division along with members of Connecticut's other Organized Militia units and numerous volunteers. During their training on the grounds of Yale University prior to deployment, they unexpectedly added a soldier to their company. Found by then-Private John Conroy, Stubby was a brindle patched puppy of unknown descent with a short tail from which he received his name. As the soldiers became familiar with army life, so did Stubby. Stubby became familiar with all of the bugle calls, the drill marching routines, and the routines of life in camp, even learning to give a dog's version of a salute. Stubby would would put his right paw on his right eyebrow when a salute was executed by others around him. Stubby's effect on the soldiers around him as well as his dedication to training and his ability to salute earned him the right to remain in the camp, even though animals were not allowed.
